Happy Holidays! December 2013 Update

Happy Holidays!  It is hard to believe that 2014 is just days away. So much has happened in 2013… It’s been an incredible year, and even though there have been a few hiccups, 2013 was quite a remarkable year. In 2012 I started to think about PIXIES: A Visual History, sitting at the coffee shop in town, putting together ideas and searching Pixies images on Google. With a 3 page overview I presented my idea to the band and their manager, not even certain everyone would sign off on it. But here we are, just a few weeks away from completion!

I have had some emails and I’ve also seen some comments online, people asking where the book is and why they’ve not received their copy yet when we had a projected delivery date of November. I have sent out updates on this and also posted on the project’s website, on the Facebook page, and on Twitter, but I understand people don’t always see those things, so let me state it here as well: due to unforeseen production delays, the book has been delayed. There is no one thing that caused this, but a combination of contributing factors. We expect the book to be completed and printed for Spring 2014 shipping. I know this is disappointing to many of you, because it is disappointing to me as well. These things happen, especially in publishing.

There is an upside though!

Because the book is delayed a few months, we’ve been able to include some material that we received late in the production process, images that would NOT have been in the book otherwise. So yes, the book is delayed, but it will be a BETTER book for it, and I think that is a good thing!

Also, I know in my last update I mentioned we need your shipping info. I think maybe I should have been a bit clearer in what I needed. There is a small group of people that never submitted the Kickstarter backer survey. This survey information is needed to ship the book and other items. Without it, we have no shipping details and items cannot be mailed out. This affects a SMALL NUMBER of people. If you’ve submitted your survey, WE HAVE YOUR INFO and you are ALL SET! I know it can be confusing, and one of my many suggestions to Kickstarter is to revamp this part of the process, as it is very difficult for backers to see if they’ve submitted the survey, and there is no tool for me to re-send the survey to those who’ve not answered. Of course, if you have any questions you can email [email protected], but keep in mind I get hundreds of emails a day there, so it may take a while to get a response.

So in closing, thank you for your patience and your support. It’s been a great 2013, and 2014 looks just as good! After books start shipping in February, we will take a short break to recoup, but then we will start work on PIXIES: A Visual History, Volume 2, which will cover the time period from the 2004 reunion until present day. I won’t yet get into details of that project, but there have been some definite lessons learned along the way.  One thing I can tell you is that book will be mostly completed before we even launch the campaign for it, so there will not be a long length of time between pre-ordering and shipping.

That’s all for now, as always for the latest info and updates be sure to check in with us online, on Facebook, and on Twitter.

Happy Holidays!
